Hello, I am Junghun—an interdisciplinary sociologist and feminist ethnographer who explores the intersections of gender and health/disability. I am drawn to the ordinary spaces where large-scale discourses and narratives meet everyday acts: where state policies encounter the lived realities of care, and where global human rights ideals are translated through emotion, culture, and subtle forms of resistance.

My current research explores the symbolic interactions that emerge during the translation of international human rights discourses at the intersection of gender and disability, such as between state institutions and activists, as well as among ordinary people navigating everyday life. I conduct community-based fieldwork and archival research, drawing on visual and oral materials, to gather layered narratives across diverse social contexts.  Through this work, I aim to illuminate stories of gender and health justice, open up deeper conversations from a postcolonial perspective, and advocate for more inclusive and responsive health policies that center the experiences and voices of marginalized communities.

I earned my Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, San Diego, and hold a B.A. in Philosophy/Sociology and an M.A. in Sociology from Sogang University, Korea.
